Police say a 17-year-old girl was killed when her vehicle went off the road and struck a utility pole and a tree in Edgecomb.

Police say the vehicle being driven by Paris Pierpont of Jefferson went off River Road around 10:20 p.m. Sunday night and struck the pole and a tree.

Pierpont, who was the only occupant in the vehicle, died at the scene.

Police believe speed and alcohol may have been factors, and said Pierpont was not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash is under investigation.
