LITCHFIELD, Maine (AP) A Maine school district has found no evidence of contamination after a group of students were removed from a Litchfield classroom due to reports of a strange smell.

Andrew Carlton, superintendent of the district serving Litchfield, Wales and Sabattus, says the district tested the air and carpeting at Libby-Tozier School and found no contaminants. The Kennebec Journal reports the school is replacing its carpeting while students are away on February vacation this week.

Carlton says there was a “musty smell” in the classroom, but tests came back negative. He says the district replaced carpeting in case something was spilled, and expects to reopen the classroom next week.

About 180 students attend Libby-Tozier.
