LISBON, ME- The 40th annual Moxie Festival in Lisbon Maine is set to attract visitors from across the nation this weekend, promising a spectacular lineup of events and entertainment. Organized by Lisbon Parks and Recreation, the festival kicks off this Friday, July 12 and runs through Sunday, July 14th, offering a variety of activities such as a Moxie chugging contest, a car show, a whoopie pie eating contest and more to celebrate the iconic soft drink, Moxie.

Kate Madore, the assistant director, highlighted the festival’s appeal to enthusiasts like a farmer from the Midwest who eagerly awaits this year’s event after scheduling conflicts in previous years. One of the festival’s main draws will be a performance by Maine native and “American Idol” star Julia Gagnon, who will not only grace the stage but also mingle with attendees.

The musical lineup doesn’t stop there; Saturday features performances by Ward Hayden and The Outliers, followed by The Mallett Brothers Band, known for their Americana rock. Madore emphasized that these performances, along with others scheduled throughout the weekend, are free for all attendees, making it a unique opportunity to experience top-notch local talent without cost.

In addition to musical entertainment, the festival boasts a variety of events catering to diverse interests. Friday kicks off with a popular Moxie recipe contest, challenging participants to incorporate the soft drink into their culinary creations. Other crowd favorites include a Moxie chugging competition and the Moxie Day Parade, renowned as the longest parade in Maine.

Reflecting on the festival’s theme, Madore expressed the community’s passion for Moxie, enraptured in the slogan “Mad about Moxie!” Rediscovered on an old six-pack, this slogan resonates with Lisbon’s longstanding love for the beverage and its role in bringing the community together.

Overall, this year’s Moxie Festival promises to be one of the biggest yet, celebrating not only the beloved soft drink but also the spirit and talent of Lisbon’s community. It’s an event where attendees can enjoy the best of what the town has to offer, from culinary delights to vibrant performances, all in a festive and welcoming atmosphere.
