The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating after a car fire left three family members with burns.

Investigators responded to the vehicle fire at 49 Hog Bay Road in Franklin around 3 p.m. Sunday. A 3-year-old boy who was in the vehicle was flown to Mass General in Boston to be treated for burn injuries.

His parents, who were working at the residence but don’t live there, tried to remove the boy from the vehicle but were injured in the process. The father was taken to Maine General to be treated for burn injuries. The mother was taken to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth with minor burn injuries but has since been released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. We’re awaiting more details from the fire marshal’s office.
