Train strikes car in Enfield after driver, witnesses say flashing lights and train signals were not activated

A driver suffered minor injuries after their vehicle was hit by a train in Penobscot County on Monday.

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office says the car was struck in Enfield at the crossing on Hammett Road around 4:15 p.m. Monday.

Deputies said no one on the train was hurt. The train was not derailed and no cargo was damaged.

Witnesses and the car’s driver told police the flashing red lights and train signals were not activated until after the accident.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
