Frenchville, Maine (AP) The state of Maine is issuing an emergency order to try to prevent the spread of an invasive pest that jeopardizes forests and wood products.
The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry says the towns of Grand Isle, Frenchville and Madawaska in Aroostook County are home to infestations of emerald ash borer. The borer is a destructive pest that ruins ash trees.
The state says a “stop movement order” has been issued for several kinds of products to prevent the borer from spreading. The products include types of lumber and firewood.
State officials are holding an informational session about the discovery of emerald ash borer in the county. The event is scheduled for Aug. 23 at the Frenchville Community Center.
