Truck carrying crane crashed into overpass on Maine Turnpike

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (WGAN) The driver of a truck hauling a crane which struck a bridge overpass in South Portland is suffering serious injuries.

State police say 58-year-old Loel Faulkinham of Auburn was transporting a large industrial man lift on a trailer when it struck the overpass at mile 45 northbound on the turnpike in South Portland around 11 AM Monday, causing traffic backups as crews cleaned up the wreck. Police say the truck and equipment were destroyed.

Faulkinham was brought to Maine Medical Center with injuries not considered to be life threatening.

Turnpike officials were assessing damage to the overpass. No charges were filed.
