CHAIN OF PONDS TOWNSHIP, Maine (WGAN) Police say one person is dead after a Monday morning car crash in Franklin County.

Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols says the crash happened just before 9:30am on Route 27 in Chain of Ponds Township, located about 10 minutes south of the Canadian border.

Police say 70-year-old Jeffrey Lange from Rumford was driving a grey 2010 Peterbuilt tractor trailer owned by Nicols Bros Trucking southbound, when he lost traction on a curve and jackknifed into the northbound lane.  The driver of a fuel truck, 51-year-old Gregory Hutchinson, was killed instantly.

Customs and Border Patrol arrived first on scene after the wreck was called in by another trucker over the radio.

Police say 2,000 gallons of oil and 800 gallons of kerosene spilled from the fuel truck, and authorities were on scene to help contain it.

Police say the crash is still under investigation.
