Truck slams through Oxford County store, driver tased by police after crash

Police say a pickup truck crashed through a store in Otisfield during a police chase late Wednesday night.

They say they responded to a report of a suspicious truck at the Big Apple store on Roosevelt Trail in Raymond.

The man in the truck was 31-year-old Zachary Mercier, and police say he showed signs of impairment when they spoke to him.

He allegedly sped off and led police on a chase.

State police laid down spike mats on Bolsters Mills Road in Otisfield, puncturing three of four tires.

According to police, the vehicle continued at a high rate of speed, lost control and crashed through the front of Bolsters Mills General Store.

They say the vehicle came to rest in the middle of the store, which will remain closed for several days while it’s fixed up.

Mercier reportedly was not cooperative and had to be tased before he was taken into custody.

He’s charged with failure to submit to arrest, criminal speeding, eluding a police officer, operating after suspension and violation of conditions of release.

Mercier was taken by United Ambulance to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway for treatment of minor injuries and “possible drug-related issues,” according to police.
