TSA finds loaded handgun in carry-on bag at Portland Jetport

PORTLAND, Maine (WGAN) The TSA confiscated a loaded handgun from a Maine man at the Portland Jetport on Friday morning.

Officials say the Fairfield man was carrying a 9mm handgun in his backpack when he went through the X-ray checkpoint. Airport police confiscated the weapon and detained the man for questioning.

The TSA says this is the second loaded handgun found at the jetport this year. Three were found in 2019, and four in 2018.

Travelers can bring loaded firearms on board in their checked bags as long as they are properly packaged and declared. They need to be unloaded, packed in a hard-sided case, locked, and packed separately from ammunition.
