Bret Libby/Bangor Police

BANGOR, Maine (WGAN) Two people were taken into custody Tuesday afternoon after an altercation with police officers in Bangor.

Police say 22-year-old Bret Libby and 23-year-old Mariah Lamb, both of Bangor, were harassing and then attacked an officer who was trying to arrest someone in Pickering Square around 2pm. According to the report, Libby had punched one of the officers in the head and face before being subdued. The pair were part of a group that had gathered around the officers.

Lamb and Libby were both taken to Penobscot County Jail.

Police say they’re stepping up patrols in Pickering Square, even though disturbances or violence in that area are rare.
