ROCKLAND, Maine (WGAN)  The State Fire Marshal’s Office says two young men from Rockland have been charged with arson in connection with a fire in late May that destroyed a garage in Rockland.

Fire investigators have charged 19-year-old Hendrix Hallowell and a 17-year-old boy with arson and burglary.

Both young men were already in jail on unrelated charges and the new charges were lodged Wednesday.

The fire on May 30 destroyed a detached garage at a home on Camden Terrance, but the house was not damaged. Rockland Police worked closely with fire marshals in the investigation and determined that the two entered the garage, set the fire and then left. Hallowell likely will be in Rockland court Friday.

Hallowell is at the Knox County Jail and the juvenile is being held at the Long Creek Youth Center.
