Two dead following head-on crash in Jefferson

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office reporting that two people from Thomaston died Friday night following a head-on crash.

Lincoln County Communications center received a report of a fatal head-on motor vehicle collision on Route 17 in Jefferson, at approximately 10:25 p.m. Friday night.

A Subaru Legacy heading eastbound on Route 17, occupided by Hailey Robinson, 26, and Robert Crowe, 55 crossed the center line into the path of an oncoming truck traveling westbound. The two vehicles collided in the eastbound lane.

Robinson and Crowe died at the scene. Police say Robinson was wearing a seatbelt, and Crowe was not. He was ejected from the vehicle.

The oncoming truck, a Dodge Ram, was occupided by Jacob Stevenson, 25, Amy Green, 25, and Allen M. Bowman, 26. All three were wearing seatbelts. Green was transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston by lifeflight with non-life threatening injuries. Stevenson was transported by Waldoboro EMS to Lincoln Health Mils Campus in Damariscotta was non-life threatening injuries, Bowman declined medical care.

Police believe speed was a factor in the collision, but the investigation remains on-going. The Maine State Police is assisting with the crash reconstruction.

Route 17 was completely shut down until 1:50 a.m. when normal traffic was restored.
