MILLINOCKET, Maine (WGAN) Two firefighters were injured while trying to knock down flames at a historic building in northern Maine over the weekend.

Fire crews in Millinocket responded to the scene around 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

According to CBS 13, flames broke out at a building next to the town office, which was also damaged, along with some nearby shops.

The building where the fire started has been unoccupied for years but was formerly a bank, and it has been a part of the downtown area for decades.

Officials say two firefighters suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
