CORNISH, Maine (WGAN) Police say a man damaged his own vehicle as part of a conspiracy to commit insurance fraud.

51-year-old Dale Harrington of Fryeburg reported his Toyota Tundra had been stolen from the Shop N’ Save store in Cornish in early November. York County Sheriff William King says the vehicle was found seriously damaged in a field in Parsonsfield. Following an investigation, police determined that the truck, valued at $25,000, had been damaged by Harrington and 36-year-old Howard Cole of Parsonsfield, who conspired to destroy it for insurance purposes.

Harrington was arrested and charged with Insurance Deception class B on November 17th. Cole faces a charge of Aggravated Criminal Mischief.

Both have a scheduled court date of January 5th.
