Police in Auburn are investigating two pedestrian traffic crashes the same morning.

55-year-old Cindy Neff of Lewiston was struck by two vehicles while crossing Court Street in Auburn Friday morning around 6:30. Both vehicles stopped in the roadway after the collision, causing a third vehicle to collide with the back of one of them.

Police say a preliminary investigation suggests Neff ran into traffic and didn’t use a crosswalk. She was in critical but stable condition at Maine Medical Center on Friday.

A couple of hours later, police were called to a second pedestrian crash in the Hampshire Street area near the intersection of Troy Street. That’s where 63-year-old Mark Sharp of Auburn was struck by a vehicle while using his electric wheelchair in a marked crosswalk. He was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver in that crash was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
