ACTON, Maine (WGAN) The York County Sheriff’s Office says several motorcyclists were injured in an accident Saturday in Acton.
The sheriff’s office says a group of New Hampshire motorcyclists had traveled to Acton for an outing, and were returning to New Hampshire when the incident happened.
According to police, the group of five motorcycles was driving on Route 109 when one of the bikers clipped another bike. In all, three motorcycles were involved in the crash.
Police say 41-year-old Jared Russell appeared to suffer a serious head injury and was Lifeflighted to Maine Medical Center. His wife, Jennifer, was riding with him and also suffered a serious head injury. She was taken to Southern Maine Health Care in Sanford and later transferred to Maine Medical Center.
Police say no one involved in the crash was wearing a helmet. The Russell’s were both in serious condition, according to police.
The other people involved in the crash were treated at the scene and released. One driver refused treatment at the scene, but later sought it on his own, according to police.
Two of the bikes had to be towed.
Police say Route 109 was closed for over three hours after the crash.
Police say their preliminary analysis shows that operator inexperience and other causal factors attributed to this crash.
The crash will be reconstructed today by deputies of the sheriff’s office and the Maine Warden Service.
