Two construction workers suffered life-threatening wounds when a building they were working on collapsed in Naples on Tuesday.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office says crew members were working at Captain Jack’s Restaurant just before 1 p.m. when the building collapsed.

44-year-old Shane Malloy of West Gardiner was pinned underneath the roof for several minutes before he was removed by a forklift. He was brought to Bridgton Hospital, then Life Flighted to Maine Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Another crew member, 44-year-old Harold Collins, was also struck by the roof but not pinned. He was taken by ambulance to MMC with life-threatening injuries.

Other crew members were involved in the accident, but were not harmed.

Police said the roof was being assembled at ground level, suspended about six feet in the air, while workers were above and underneath it.

OSHA responded to the scene and is investigating the accident.
