The University of Maine System says dozens of students won’t be going home for Thanksgiving because they’ve tested positive for COVID-19.

The system conducted 6,300 safe departure tests, hoping to identify positive cases before sending students back to their home communities.

As a result of those tests, school leaders say they have identified 40 asymptomatic cases of COVID-19.

The system anticipates that it will support 50 students through the Thanksgiving holiday as they quarantine or isolate on campus.
