The fire along Depot Street caused what the Unity Fire Department called a huge loss of a local longtime business and family home.

Depot Street was closed down because of the size of the fire, which brought in nine surrounding fire departments.

WVII reports the blaze started in the kitchen but spread rapidly throughout the entire structure, which houses the Unity Flower Shop.

No one was injured.

Firefighters said cold temperatures presented a challenge as a pump froze. Unity Fire and Ambulance were assisted by crews from Dixmont, Detroit, Troy, Liberty, Montville, Freedom, Fairfield, Albion and Clinton.

A social media post by the Unity Fire Department said, “Please keep the Shedyak family in your thoughts.”

A GoFundMe page was set up for the family, and had raised almost $8,000 by Sunday night.
