Maine utility regulators are requiring Central Maine Power to outline their plan to maintain service quality.
The Portland Press Herald writes that CMP would need to a produce a “performance plan” as the Maine Public Utilities Commission orders a preliminary investigation into the company’s management structure.
The plan will need to be submitted by November 30th.
The utility has been the subject of multiple investigations into customer service and billing complaints dating back to 2017, when it introduced a new billing system.
In a statement from the administration of Governor Janet Mills, an official says they’re in favor of the investigation.
“The Mills Administration supports the PUC’s decision to investigate CMP’s management structure,” said Dan Burgess, Director of the Governor’s Energy Office. “We will follow these proceedings closely and strongly believe that Maine should use every regulatory tool within its power to ensure that our electric utilities are meeting their statutory mission to deliver safe, reliable, and adequate services at just and reasonable rates for Maine people. We welcome and applaud this new and stronger level of oversight.”
