Waldo County man dies after motorcycle strikes mailbox post

WALDO, Maine (AP) Police in Maine say a man died when his motorcycle struck a mailbox post in Waldo.

Police said the crash killed 51-year-old Shawn Gerry, of Stockton Springs on Tuesday night.

They say his motorcycle left the roadway to the right, struck the post and came to rest in a ditch. Police say Gerry suffered serious injuries and died after being transported by ambulance for medical attention.

They say the circumstances of why his motorcycle left the roadway are still under investigation.
