A Knox woman convicted of locking a dozen cats in a storage unit without food and water has been banned from ever owning cats again.

Anna Elander, 67, recieved a 20-day jail sentence this week.

It comes after Elander pleaded guilty to a charge of animal cruelty in August.

Our news partners at CBS 13 reports that another customers of the same self-storage facility in Unity heard the cats in Oct. 2018 and notified the property owner.

Police said the cats had been stuffed into three plastic dog crates.

Three of the cats were dead when they were discovered.

Two others died after being removed from the storage unit.
