Wanted felon arrested after foot chase in Bangor

A Maine man with previous felony convictions was taken into custody after police say he fled from officers in Bangor this week.

Bangor police say 37-year-old Eufemio Santana of Hampden was arrested Thursday night after officers responded to a report of trespassing at a dollar store on State Street.

Police say Santana was evasive with officers when they arrived and provided a false name. He allegedly fled on foot and an officer said they saw him pull a handgun out of his waistband. Police say he lost control of the weapon after he tripped and fell, at which point he was taken into custody.

Records showed Santana had a warrant out for his arrest for failure to appear for a driving offense and was out on bail at the time of the incident. He’s been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a schedule W drug, refusal to submit to arrest, and violation of bail.

Santana has previous felony convictions, one of which is for “escape.”

He’s being held at the Penobscot County Jail.
