PERU, Maine (WGAN) The Maine Warden Service is offering a $2,500 reward for anyone who comes forward with information leading to the conviction of whoever is responsible for shooting and killing a bald eagle.

The warden service said Wednesday that the injured eagle was found near Route 108 and the Androscoggin River in Peru, Maine on Sunday. The person who found the eagle cared for it until a game warden arrived. It later died, and X-rays showed the eagle had been shot.

In addition to the $2,500 reward for information leading to conviction under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, Maine Operation Game Thief is also offering a $2,000 reward.
