The Maine Department of Environmental Protection recently tested a well at the Mere Creek golf Course in Brunswick and found high amounts of PFAS chemicals inside of the drinking water, five times the safe level for drinking water.

The golf course is located South of the former naval air station and predates the spill of toxic firefighting foam at the airport last summer.

According to our news partners at CBS 13 news the new head of the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment authority says it’s unsure about where the contamination came from.

The DEP claims to also have sent a letter to the Navy to investigate the area and find the source of the contamination and is also asking them to sample private wells within 1,000 feet of the golf course.
