RUMFORD, Maine (WGAN) A West Paris man is behind bars after leading Rumford police on a 14-mile chase that ended in the town of Peru.

Police say 22-year-old Austin Kimball had sexually propositioned a female jogger from his car in Rumford on Wednesday evening. The jogger then took off running from the area, at which point Kimball sped off, then turned back around and swerved towards her. She was not injured.

Police caught up with Kimball at a nearby parking lot. He then sped off again and attempted to ram a police cruiser.

Kimball led police on a chase that ended on East Shore Road at Worthley Pond in Peru when his vehicle ran out of gas. He was taken into custody.

According to police, Kimball has a criminal history, including an arrest in West Paris in March after he was allegedly intoxicated and threatening a store clerk. In April, he was arrested again after he was involved in an injury rollover crash in West Paris and determined to being under the influence. He was eventually released once again on bail.

Kimball was arraigned on Thursday with bail set at $2,500 or $250 with a Maine Pre-Trial Services contract for supervision while awaiting trial. He had not yet posted bail as of Thursday.
