News Radio WGAN is bringing back the Make 12 Hours Count Radiothon to support the nonprofit Veterans Forward.

It’s been six years since we last aired the Radiothon, which is a fundraiser to support veterans and their families who have emergency needs ranging from housing to food to substance abuse.

All four members of Maine’s Congressional delegation – Senators Susan Collins and Angus King, and Representatives Jared Golden and Chellie Pingree – will join the Radiothon between 6 am and 6 pm Thursday.

The 12-hour broadcast will feature a rotating panel of hosts including Jon Shannon from WGAN sister station WPOR as well as Hall of Fame Broadcaster and Veteran Chuck Igo

Longtime WGAN Morning News producer Danny Martignetti says he felt it was a great opportunity to bring back the radiothon, which will lead into this weekend’s 4th Annual Hot Rods & Heroes Car Show, which also raises money for Veterans Forward.

Proceeds raised from the Radiothon will be announced at Hot Rods and Heroes, which is billed as the Last Car Show of the Season.

Hot Rods and Heroes takes place Sunday between 10 a.m and 2 pm at the Bill Dodge Auto Group, located at 4 Saunders Way in Westbrook.

Anyone wanting to show their car will need to register on location between 7 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., as there is no pre-registration available. There’s a $20 Entry Fee for exhibitor vehicles, with all registration fees going to Veterans Forward.

The first 300 vehicles to register will receive a special commemorative dash plaque.

Sunny weather is forecast for Sunday, although a rain date for the car show would take place the following Sunday, October 26.

More than 500 cars are expected at Hot Rods and Heroes, which will offer awards in several categories.

There’ll also be live music from Toby McAllister, food trucks and a raffle.
