CYR PLANTATION, Maine (WGAN) State police say a multi-vehicle crash in Aroostook County on Tuesday morning was caused by whiteout conditions.

Police say 11 vehicles were involved in the crash on Route 1 in Cyr Plantation. 2 Maine DOT plow trucks, 1 Van Buren police cruiser, 7 passenger cars and 1 pickup were involved.

Van Buren Police Chief Michael Bresette and a DOT operator were injured while on foot at the scene. Bresette was taken to the hospital with broken bones. After being injured, he dragged himself out of the roadway to avoid being hit again by an oncoming truck.

No one else involved has been identified. Some were treated and released or are still being treated.

The crash is still under investigation.
