Willard Beach in South Portland is back open.

Last Thursday, city officials said the beach was closed due to a break in a pipe that carries wastewater. The city stopped the flow and repaired the break on Friday, but the beach remained closed while the city awaited water test results.

On Wednesday, the city said bacteria levels in the water are now below the public safety threshold set by the Department of Environmental Protection’s Maine Healthy Beaches Program.

Barriers and the “Beach Closed” sign were expected to be removed on Thursday.
