A Maine man is accused of breaking into a Monmouth store and stealing more than $1,000 in lottery tickets.

Police say 32-year-old Zachary Lowe of Winthrop broke into Phil’s Variety on Route 202 by shattering the front glass door.

Officers say he stole more than $1,000 in lottery scratch tickets, cash, cigarettes, and other small items.

Lowe is now in the Kennebec County Jail facing charges of Burglary, Aggravated Criminal Mischief and Theft by Unauthorized taking or transfer. All are Class C felonies, which carry a penalty of up to five years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to $5,000.

Monmouth Police say they were assisted in the investigation by the Winthrop Police Department, Bureau of Alcohol Beverages and Lottery Operations.

Officers are also praising citizens for offering additional help after they watched the video and called in tips.
