Winthrop man extricated from vehicle, taken to hospital after collision with train

A man was life-flighted to the hospital after his vehicle collided with a train early Monday morning in New Gloucester.

The Pan AM Railways dispatch center reported the incident to police just before 4 a.m. Monday.

Dispatch said a vehicle driven by 43-year-old David Ridlon of Winthrop collided with the train at a railroad crossing on Route 231.

Police say Ridlon was trapped in the driver’s seat and had to be extricated from the vehicle.

A news release provided no information on the man’s condition.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
