A 22-year-old Massachusetts woman is getting a plea deal after admitting she provided alcohol to a minor who later drove off a road and hit a tree, killing four other people in Castine in 2022.

Noelle Tavares will not go prison for manslaughter, but must meet a number of requirements, including never possessing alcohol or unprescribed drugs, submit to search and testing, and addressing the Maine Maritime Academy freshman class on excessive alcohol use.

Hancock County District Attorney Robert Granger says the penalty fits the evidence and the desires of the families involved.

CBS 13 News reports the driver in the crash was sentenced to 18 years in prison for manslaughter and aggravated OUI, but will serve only three years.

All occupants in the crash were Maine Maritime Academy students.
