HOULTON, Maine (AP)   A Massachusetts woman who admitted her role in the robbery and death of her cousin in Maine will serve 17 years in prison.

Twenty-six-year-old Tia Ludwick was sentenced in Houlton Superior Court on Wednesday. She pleaded guilty in February to felony murder and robbery in connection with the death of 31-year-old Douglas Morin Jr.

The Bangor Daily News reports Ludwick was sentenced to 22 years in prison with all but 17 years suspended, followed by four years of probation.

Ludwick’s defense attorney said his client was remorseful and had been self-medicating with drugs to treat her bipolar disorder. Ludwick says she never meant for anyone to be hurt.

The judge agreed with Ludwick but stated that the woman “organized and planned” the robbery that ultimately led to Morin’s death.
