Women’s Beach to Beacon Race Winner Stripped of Title

Faith Chepkoech of Kenya is being stripped of her 2024 Beach to Beacon women’s title after admitting to violating international anti-doping rules earlier this month.

Chepkoech finished the 10-kilometer race in Cape Elizabeth in just over 32 minutes.

She tested positive for a banned substance known as, recombinant erythropoietin, or EPO, according to the Athletics Integrity Unit, which oversees World Athletic anti-doping rules.

Chepkoech claimed that she had been injected with an unknown substance by an unknown individual back in July, and then admitted in writing to violating the anti-doping rules,

Her $10,000 prize will be returned and awarded to the runner-up in the race.

The TD Beach to Beacon 10K road running event takes place along the coastline of Cape Elizabeth. It begins at Crescent Beach State Park and ends at the Portland Head Light in Fort Williams Park.
