BUXTON, Maine (WGAN)  Police say a dog that ran away after being shot on Thursday has been found and is back in the owner’s possession.

Police say they were called around 8:20 Friday morning and told a pit bull was sitting in the parking lot of Frugal Farmers on Rankin Road.  When business owners and employees tried to approach the dog, it growled at them, according to police.

An officer and an animal control officer responded and positively identified the dog as the pit bull that went missing after yesterday’s shooting.

One of the dog’s owners, 34-year-old Brian Lamontagne, arrived on scene and took possession of the dog.  Because of the wounds on its hind quarters and tails, police say the dog was taken to the vet.

Police are still investigating how the two dogs were shot Thursday afternoon.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Buxton Police.
