York County may not be eligible to receive aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), despite experiencing significant damage from flooding earlier this month.

According to CBS 13, FEMA requires $932,000 in damage from a natural disaster event in order to provide assistance. The damage in York County from the heavy rainfall the County experienced May 1st is under that threshold at $700,000.

Without the assistance from FEMA, York County Emergency Management Agency Deputy Director Megan Arsenault says the cost of the repairs will significantly impact town budgets.

Arsenault says that while the County’s municipalities set money aside in anticipation for storms like this, the increased frequency and intensity of storms in recent years is making budgeting difficult.

York County is still currently working with FEMA to get funds for damage caused by the snowstorm on Christmas, which the county did meet the threshold for.
