Gorham (WGME) – A young child died Wednesday evening after being found in the swimming pool at the Friendly Village mobile home park in Gorham, Maine.

According to Gorham police, Maine State Police is assisting in the investigation. Neighbors reported hearing frantic calls for a missing child around 6 pm on Wednesday. After a frantic 40-minute search, the boy was discovered in the community pool.

A neighbor who found the child jumped the fence, retrieved the boy from the water, and began CPR in an attempt to revive him. Sadly, despite the neighbor’s efforts and the 40 minutes of medical attention provided by EMTs, the child did not survive.

Those who knew the child described him as a familiar sight playing outside with his older brother. Neighbors expressed confusion about how the child bypassed the apparently secure, locked gate and fence surrounding the pool, located approximately 400 feet from the child’s residence.

Security cameras at the pool may hold clues about how the child entered the enclosure. This is the second child fatality at Friendly Village in three years.
