Danny speaks with Joe Reagan from Veterans Count, Cumberland County DA Jonathan Sahrbeck and NAMI Maine about the upcoming event on Tuesday November 12, 2019 – Pathways To Recovery: Resources For Maine’s Veterans & Families, which is presented by RALI MAINE.

In the second half of Maine Points Danny, then goes over Veterans Day Fundraiser on WGAN happening on Saturday November 9th at Bill Dodge GMC in Westbrook.

This program focuses on our Maine veterans and what our Maine organizations are doing to help support our Maine Veterans and their Families

Maine Points: McAuley Residence

McAuley Residence provides a comprehensive transitional housing program for women with and without children who are in recovery from drug and alcohol dependency. They serve a diverse group of women whose primary concern is addiction. Women come from all over the state of Maine and either apply on their own or are referred through community agencies.

This program focuses on McAuley Residence’s work here in Maine and their Annual McAuley Run/Walk for Recovery on Saturday, October 19, 2019

Maine Points: Iris Network

Chuck Igo soke with Regal Naseef who is the Director of Development And Communication for The Iris Network. The Iris Network is a community-based, Maine nonprofit 501(c)(3) public benefit corporation. The Iris Network recognizes the diverse aspirations and abilities of people who are visually impaired or blind. They also go over the 24th Iris Network White Cane Walk for Independence on Saturday, October 12th at the Iris Network, 189 Park Avenue in Portland!

This program focuses on how the Iris Network is helping to build a world where no person is limited by visual impairment or blindness.

Maine Points: Witches Wear Pink

Coast is supporting the fight against breast cancer by partnering with “Witches Wear Pink” for their annual cocktail party fundraiser. Join Blake and Eva Saturday 10/5 from 7-11pm at AURA, for light appetizers, a live band, live auction, cash bar and door prizes.

All the money raised stays local to help reduce cancer incidence and mortality rates in our Maine communities by focusing on early detection, cancer prevention and screening, and by helping to provide available research that will ultimately lead to better patient prognosis and a better quality of life.

This program focuses on supporting the fight against breast cancer in Maine.

Maine Points: One Climate Future

The Cities of Portland and South Portland are developing a joint climate action and adaptation plan – One Climate Future: Charting a Course for Portland and South Portland. The goal of this planning process is to make our communities even stronger tomorrow than we are today. This is the first known instance that two cities have partnered to develop a climate action strategy.

The climate action planning process officially kicked off in June 2019 and will go until May 2020. The goal is to create an actionable plan that includes community member feedback and insights.

This program focuses on the planning process climate change and what is being done by The Cities of Portland and South Portland

The Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services and its partner agencies are announcing a month-long Veteran Suicide Prevention “Call to Action” to bring focus to the epidemic of Veteran suicide. The American Liver Foundation is a non-profit organization that promotes liver health and disease prevention. The mission of the ALF is to facilitate, advocate and promote education, support and research for the prevention, treatment, and cure of liver disease.

Adult education in Maine is a statewide system of more than 100 connected learning programs and centers from Kittery to Fort Kent and everywhere in between. Anyone from any community can enroll and attend, not just those from Westbrook and Gorham. Danny is joined by

The Rx Abuse Leadership Initiative (RALI) of Maine is an alliance of organizations elevating programs that have a real impact on our state’s opioid crisis.
