The Coast Guard Auxiliary is the volunteer uniformed auxiliary service of the United States Coast Guard. The Auxiliary exists to support all US Coast Guard missions on the water or in the air, except those that require direct law enforcement or military engagement. Danny speaks with Peter Poulin from U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary | Casco Bay Flotilla.
In the last couple of years, Maine has enacted legislation that requires boaters born after 1/1/1999 to have taken a boating safety course and passed a test. Peter is the USCG State of Maine Liaison, and he works with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and has personally conducted several classes and is responsible for the administration of all of these classes that are taught in Maine by their multiple flotillas. You can visit www.AuxBoatEd.org to register for a class.
Also, The United States Coast Guard issued a special Newsletter recently regarding a proposal to permanently remove hundreds of navigation aids on the coast of New England (Over 100 in Maine alone). This has generated much concern among recreational boaters. These navigation aids provide critical guidance, especially in Maine waters where we have many navigation challenges.
