Japanese Style Brewery-Restaurant to Open in S. Portland

A new restaurant with its own Japanese style beer and comfort food in opening Friday in the Knightville section of South Portland.

The Send Brewing Company is taking over the former site of Foulmouthed Brewing and will retain the same 50-seat layout.

Owner Cole Corbin worked for 8 years as a brewer and then as director of brewing operations and technical director at Freeport-based brewery Maine Beer Company, and earlier as an aerospace engineer at NASA, according to PortlandFoodMap. He also worked as a bartender and prep cook at Mast Landing and Knighthawk’s Kitchen.

The Send will offer its own IPA, pale ale and stout on tap as well as Sapporo and an additional guest tap. House-made Japanese-style lagers will eventually be added to the tap list, according to PortlandFoodMap.

Chef Jayde Miller spent a year living in Japan and is a graduate of Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. The menu will feature Japanese comfort food including onigiri, fried chicken, curry korokke, gyudon, daikon salad, according to PortlandFoodMap.

The Send Brewing Company will be open Thursdays through Mondays starting this weekend.

A passage from the restaurant’s website reads, “It is a place where friends, family, and locals gather to enjoy fresh beer and Japanese comfort food while sharing their love of the great outdoors and the awe it inspires in all of us.”
