A new report says a faulty electrical component is likely to blame for the massive spill of toxic firefighting foam last year at the Brunswick Executive Airport.

About 1,400 gallons of foam containing PFAS mixed with 50,000 gallons of water was released accidentally in a hangar at the airport in August of 2024.

A recently-released report from an outside fire protection company said an electronic module card may have improperly triggered the fire suppression system.

It took months for crews to remove the chemicals from the surrounding environment.
