AccuWeather senior meteorologist Joe Lundberg discussed the current weather event, predicting one to two inches of rain, a temporary reprieve from the ongoing drought in the area. He noted that while this rain will help fuels and aquifers, it won’t significantly improve the drought index. Lundberg highlighted that the three driest summers in Maine since the 1960s are 1968, 1995, and the current year. He also mentioned that the winters following these dry summers were unusually snowy, but the long-range forecast suggests fewer storms this winter.
