MN POLICE SHOOT                                                                                                                Kim Potter, a white former suburban Minneapolis police officer, has been charged with second-degree manslaughter for killing 20-year-old Black motorist Daunte Wright in a shooting that ignited days of unrest and clashes between protesters and police. The charges come three days after Wright was killed during a traffic stop when authorities say Potter mistakenly grabbed her handgun instead of her taser.

CHAUVIN TRIAL                                                                                                                          A defense expert says George Floyd died from a sudden heart rhythm problem due to his heart disease while being restrained by police officers, not because former Officer Derek Chauvin kept his knee on Floyd’s neck. Dr. David Fowler is former chief medical examiner for the state of Maryland. He testified Wednesday that the fentanyl and methamphetamine in Floyd’s system, and potential carbon monoxide poisoning from exposure to vehicle exhaust, also were contributing factors. Earlier Wednesday, the judge in Chauvin’s murder trial denied a defense motion to acquit the former police officer. Closing arguments are expected to start as early as next Monday.
