Maine Humanities Council awards $424,000 of CARES Act Grants
to 94 community-based cultural organizations. The Maine Humanities Council has awarded $424,000 of rapid response coronavirus relief grants to 94 Maine non-profit humanities and cultural organizations. These grants will provide financial support statewide—funding general operating expenses for organizations in all of Maine’s 16 counties and both congressional districts. The Rangeley Lakes Historical Society received funding as part of this CARES Act grant round. Bill Pierce is Executive Director of the Rangeley Lakes Historical Society in Rangeley.

The Maine Humanities Council uses books, poetry, and big ideas to bring people together to discuss issues of importance. MHC programs and grants encourage a deeper understanding of ourselves and one another, building lasting connections and reaching diverse, multigenerational, and rural audiences. As communities adjust to maintaining new patterns of physical distance, the MHC remains committed to strengthening the civic ties that hold us together.
