Mills signs legislation for offshore renewable energy

AUGUSTA, Maine (WGAN) Governor Janet Mills signed legislation on Wednesday directing the Public Utilities Commission to approve a contract for a floating offshore wind pilot, a type of renewable energy.

According to the Portland Press Herald, Governor Mills believes Maine has the potential to lead the world in floating offshore wind development.

Mills also announced the creation of the Maine offshore wind initiative, which will focus on finding opportunities for offshore wind development in the gulf of Maine.
