Police Charge 18-Year-Old Accused of Setting Fire to Portable Toilets

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine (WGAN) Police in Old Orchard Beach say an 18-year-old has been charged with arson after setting fire to two portable toilets.

Police say Ellis Hemenway of Saco turned himself in to the Auburn Police Department on Monday afternoon. They believe he turned himself in due to the media attention sparked by surveillance footage that was released.

The two port-a-potties were completely destroyed in the fire Friday.

Ellis is said to have arrived in Old Orchard Beach on April 27th and was intoxicated. It’s believed he was transient at that time and was staying with friends in Auburn.

He’ll make his first court appearance in York County Superior Court in June.
