1 Dead, 2 Injured in Northern Maine Mobile Home Fire

Washburn Mobile Home Fire - Maine State Fire Marshall's Office

The State Fire Marshal’s Office says a 62-year-old man is dead, and two others were injured after a fire in northern Maine early Monday morning.

The Washburn Fire Department and the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the fire at 61 Brook Side Circle in Washburn shortly after midnight.

Fire personnel located a single-wide trailer fully on fire.  They say two people were taken to AR Gould Hospital in Presque Isle with injuries related to the fire.

A man was later discovered dead in the fire, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to assist in the investigation.  The remains of the adult man are tentatively being identified as Steven T. Belmain of Washburn.  The remains were taken to the Maine Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy later today.

Investigators say it appears that the use of a generator in the entryway of the mobile home caused the fire.

Washburn Fire was assisted on the scene by the Mapleton and the Presque Isle Fire Departments.
