Maine State Police have arrested and charged a Turner man with two counts of murder after a violent incident inside of a local home.

Police said they responded to the home on Knight Farm Road around 1:30 a.m. Friday to a report of a home invasion with possible gunshots.

Deputies arrived to find a male unresponsive and a woman in medical distress. Both later died at the hospital. They were identified as 52-year-old Troy Varney and 48-year-old Dulsie Varney.

Police identified 24-year-old Patrick Maher as the suspect and found him inside the home. He was charged with two counts of murder on Friday afternoon and taken to Androscoggin County Jail.

The director of the Lewiston Regional Technical Center said in a letter to the school community that their nursing instructor and her husband were killed in the incident.
