Driver suffers life-threatening injuries in Brunswick vehicle pileup


Emergency responders rushed to the scene of a six-car pileup on Route 1 in Brunswick that sent three people to the hospital on Wednesday.

Police say it happened around 9 a.m. when a box truck hauling lobsters struck a sedan that had stopped in front of it, pushing the sedan under a minivan and causing a chain reaction crash that involved six vehicles. It happened on Route 1 between the Topsham Connector and Maine Street.

Police said the 23-year-old sedan driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was LifeFlighted to Central Maine Medical Center. Two other people were treated at the hospital for minor injuries and released.

Part of Route 1 was closed into Wednesday afternoon while the crash was being reconstructed.

The accident is under investigation.
